M7 Underpass

»Posted by on Nov 15, 2014 in General | 2 comments

A common question throughout the estate is “When will the M7 underpass will be completed?” This question also takes the form of “Why is there only one way in and one way out?” At this stage, it is a road to nowhere. (Source: Google Earth) It’s reasonable to say that when Mirvac planned the Parkbridge Estate and the Len Waters Estate located on the other side of the M7 that the two would be linked, providing Parkbridge residents a more direct route to Cowpasture Rd. However, the proposed link could not figure in the construction of either development because it is controlled by the government with a number of agencies with vested interests. As the continuation of Middleton Drive would be considered a local road it is in the scope of Liverpool City Council. The M7 is considered an arterial road and is operated by a body that sits under Roads and Maritime Services. With potential interests other agencies such as the Western Sydney Parklands and the operator and users of the M7 Shared Pathway which would be a wider Transport for NSW interest, there is no one person to deal with. So it is not a simple box to tick but quite an involved process to ensure all stakeholders are consulted and determining the benefits for all involved. Previous enquiries had established there was the intention to have the underpass as a thoroughfare for buses only that would travel through Parkbridge. We will address buses separately shortly. There are a number of issues involved in the topography of the land as it is currently somewhat of a swamp as a reserve for water run-off from the surrounding hills. As such if a road were to be built for buses, it would be highly prone to flooding and may lead to services not taking the route. Further questions were asked in regard to raising the table or height of the road so that general traffic may be able to use it as a thoroughfare. For those that have used the M7 Shared Pathway for a ride or a run you would know that the cycleway crosses from the west side of the M7 to the east side of the M7 (if you’re going north) at the point that Middleton Drive finishes. As the cycleway is a dedicated 40km track from the M5 (Prestons) to the M2 (Hills District), the intent to continue Middleton Drive would mean that a number of (what would be perceived to be costly) measures would be required to redirect the cycleway. As it currently stands, Liverpool Council have identified the need and are looking to secure funding for the road to be constructed in the short to medium term. The redirection of the M7 Shared Pathway has identified that a bridge would need to replace the current underpass and funding is still looking to be secured. So with that in mind, it looks possible that the road may be constructed but is subject to Government funding. If the road were completed, there may be increase traffic through Parkbridge by residents in other parts of Middleton Grange or further afield. On the other hand for the large number of residents that use Cowpasture Rd regularly, they may save a few minutes on their trip each day. In a view to quantify the number of residents that would use the road, a comprehensive survey is intended to be prepared in coming weeks. The results of which may be used to add weight to the argument and hopefully look to see this occur. Feel free to comment....

Trouble Posting Comments?

»Posted by on Nov 15, 2014 in General | 0 comments

It was raised at the AGM for both Precinct One and Precinct Two over the last two Saturdays, that some people are having trouble posting on the blog. However, no issue has been identified as to why this is. If you do have issues, please send them through to Strata Master and the Blog contributer. As the website was set up with the blog format rather than a forum, new topics can only be added by the Blog administrators. Thus all other users are only able to comment on existing posts. However, that’s not to say that all residents can’t drive topics of discussion. Simply comment on another post with ‘NEW TOPIC’ noted at the top along with an outline of what you would like to see. From which an administrator can start a post with that content and build on it with other relevant...
